Status of Foreign Portfolio Investment 2020-1-6

1.Foreign Institutional Investors (FINI) and Mainland Area Investors’ (QDII) Investment in the Securities Markets
(1)Offshore FINIs: 82 applications were registered from Dec. 1, 2019 to Dec. 31, 2019.
(2)Onshore FINIs: 0 application was registered from Dec. 1, 2019 to Dec. 31, 2019.
(3)QDIIs: 0 application was registered from Dec. 1, 2019 to Dec. 31, 2019. According to the Regulations Governing Securities Investment and Futures Trading in Taiwan by Mainland Area Investors, mainland area investors (QDIIs) that engage in securities investment or futures trading in Taiwan are limited to qualified institutional investors approved by the competent authority of banking, insurance or securities for the mainland area.
(4)As of Dec. 31, 2019, cumulative net inward-remittance from offshore FINIs was about US$213.17 billion, and QDIIs was about US$189 million.
2. Foreign Individual Investors’ (FIDI) Investment in the Securities Markets
(1)Offshore FIDIs: 12 applications were registered from Dec. 1, 2019 to Dec. 31, 2019.
(2)Onshore FIDIs: 120 applications were registered from Dec. 1, 2019 to Dec. 31, 2019.
(3)As of Dec. 31, 2019 cumulative net inward-remittance from offshore FIDIs totaled about US$244 million.
3. As of Dec. 31, 2019, cumulative net inward-remittance from offshore FINIs, QDIIs and offshore FIDIs totaled about US$213.6 billion.
4. Foreign Portfolio Investment in Taiwan Stock Exchange (TWSE) Shares
(1)Cumulatively from Jan. 1, 2019 to Dec. 31, 2019, all foreign investors bought NT$8,139.31 billion, and sold NT$7,894.29 billion of stocks, amounting to a net-buy of NT$245.02 billion.
(2)Cumulatively from Jan. 1, 2019 to Dec. 31, 2019, QDIIs bought NT$19.17 billion, and sold NT$20.01 billion of stocks, amounting to a net-sell of NT$0.84 billion.
5. Foreign Portfolio Investment in Taipei Exchange (TPEX) Shares
(1)Cumulatively from Jan. 1, 2019 to Dec. 31, 2019, all foreign investors bought NT$904.82 billion, and sold NT$879.8 billion of stocks, amounting to a net-buy of NT$25.02 billion.
(2)Cumulatively from Jan. 1, 2019 to Dec. 31, 2019, QDIIs bought NT$3.92 billion, and sold NT$3.08 billion of stocks, amounting to a net-buy of NT$0.84 billion.
