The FSC to Host the 2015 Plenary Meeting of the International Forum of Independent Audit Regulators (IFIAR) and IFIAR Enforcement Workshop

2015-04-20

The Financial Supervisory Commission (FSC) will host the fifteenth plenary meeting of the International Forum of Independent Audit Regulators (IFIAR) from 21 April 2015 to 23 April 2015 and the first IFIAR Enforcement Workshop on 24 April 2015 at the Grand Hyatt Hotel in Taipei. Over 140 audit regulators from around 40 jurisdictions and representatives from international organizations including the Financial Stability Board(FSB), the World Bank(WB), the Basel Committee of Banking Supervisors(BCBS), the International Organization of Securities Commissions (IOSCO) , the International Association of Insurance Supervisors (IAIS), and the European Commission(EC) will take part in this event
The IFIAR was founded in 2006 to create an effective platform for independent audit regulators around the globe to share knowledge of the audit market environment and practical experience in audit regulatory activity. The current number of IFIAR members has grown to 51 jurisdictions from the major international capital markets, including the European Union, the United States, Australia, Canada, Japan, South Korea, and Singapore. IFIAR plenary meetings convene annually and bring together independent audit regulators, international organizations and independent auditing related standard-setting bodies. IFIAR meetings enable participants to exchange information and experiences relating to inspection of audit firms and current audit issues, and also promote collaboration between audit regulators.
Since becoming a member of IFIAR in 2008, the FSC has actively taken part in IFIAR meetings through sharing inspection experiences and audit oversight practices in Taiwan. In addition, the FSC joined IFIAR Enforcement Working Group (EWG) in 2013 to discuss matters related to investigation, adjudication and other enforcement issues. By hosting the IFIAR 2015 plenary meeting and first EWG Enforcement Workshop, the FSC aims to raise awareness of the importance of audit quality, and enhance interaction and cooperation with other foreign audit regulators. The FSC will also continue to make every effort to improve audit quality and investor protection.
