Financial Supervisory Commission Hosting the 11th Taipei Corporate Governance Forum

To promote corporate governance and corporate social responsibility in listed companies, enhance corporate competitiveness, and elevate corporate value, the Financial Supervisory Commission (FSC) is going to hold the 11th Taipei Corporate Governance Forum (TAICGOF) at Howard Civil Service International House on 20 Oct, 2016.
According to FSC, Chairman of Chung-Hua Institution for Economic Research, Mr. Sheng-Cheng Hu, will talk about “Implementing Corporate Governance and Social Responsibility for Corporate Value Creation”; keynote speech “Trends in Non-Financial Information Disclosure and Global Sustainability Policies” will be delivered by Mr. Bert Chanetsa, Vice Chairman of the Growth and Emerging Markets Committee of IOSCO. As for panel discussions, local speakers invited are Mr. Jerry Fong, Professor from College of Law, National Chengchi University; Mr. Li-Hsuan Cheng, Associate Professor from Department of Sociology in National Chengchi University; Mr. Allen Tsai, Founder and Executive Director of Taiwan Institute of Director, and Mr. Chung-Chun Tsai, Deputy Director General from Bureau of Labor Funds. The international speakers invited are Mr. Mitchell Van der Zahn, Managing Constituting Partner of WolfBar ESG Research Partners Singapore; Ms. Yoo-Kyung Park, Director of Sustainability & Governance Asia Pacific, APG Asset Management Asia; Mr. Joseph P.H. Fan, Professor from Department of Finance & School of Accountancy, The Chinese University of Hong Kong; Ms. Anne Molyneux, Corporate Governance Consultant and Governing Board Mamber, International Corporate Governance Network (ICGN); Ms. Pru Bennett, Director of Corporate Governance in Asia-Pacific, Blackrock, and Mr. George Iguchi, Head of Corporate Governance, Nissay Asset Management Corporation. The professionals and scholars will tackle and discuss issues such as corporate governance of family-run businesses and implementation of shareholder activism.
The focus of this forum is on two major subjects, corporate governance of family-controlled businesses as well as implementation of shareholder activism. Besides scholars and experts, this forum will also welcome directors, supervisors, general managers, senior managers, and other representatives from listed companies, financial institutions, and organizations related to corporate governance. By gaining insight into the latest trends of corporate governance worldwide, it is the goal of this forum to raise the standards of Taiwan’s corporate governance to international levels. On 21 October, Dr. Konan Chan, Professor from Department of Finance, National Chengchi University will hold the roundtable discussion and participants from aboard and institutions concerned are invited. The case studies will promote communication and experience sharing among participants from international securities authorities related.
As FSC points out, at this year’s Taipei Corporate Governance Forum, experts and scholars of corporate governance, along with many well-known academics and professionals from Taiwan and abroad will be sharing their practical experiences. The number of attendees and the scale of this event demonstrate Taiwan’s determination to continuously promote corporate governance, to emphasize on the pursuit of corporate social responsibility and sustainability, and to enhance the standards of corporate governance in Taiwan.
