Status of Foreign Portfolio Investment

 

1.Foreign Institutional Investors (FINI) and Mainland Area Investors’ (QDII) Investment in the Securities Markets

（1）Offshore FINIs: 71 applications were registered from Jan. 1, 2020 to Jan. 31, 2020.

（2）Onshore FINIs: 0 application was registered from Jan. 1, 2020 to Jan. 31, 2020.

（3）QDIIs: 0 application was registered from Jan. 1, 2020 to Jam. 31, 2020. According to the Regulations Governing Securities Investment and Futures Trading in Taiwan by Mainland Area Investors, mainland area investors (QDIIs) that engage in securities investment or futures trading in Taiwan are limited to qualified institutional investors approved by the competent authority of banking, insurance or securities for the mainland area.

（4）As of Jan. 31, 2020, cumulative net inward-remittance from offshore FINIs was about US$214.45 billion, and QDIIs was about US$188 million.

 

2. Foreign Individual Investors’ (FIDI) Investment in the Securities Markets

（1）Offshore FIDIs: 3 applications were registered from Jan. 1, 2020 to Jan. 31, 2020.

（2）Onshore FIDIs: 80 applications were registered from Jan. 1, 2020 to Jan. 31, 2020.

（3）As of Jan. 31, 2020 cumulative net inward-remittance from offshore FIDIs totaled about US$253 million.

 

3. As of Jan. 31, 2020, cumulative net inward-remittance from offshore FINIs, QDIIs and offshore FIDIs totaled about US$214.89 billion.

 

4. Foreign Portfolio Investment in Taiwan Stock Exchange (TWSE) Shares

（1）Cumulatively from Jan. 1, 2020 to Jan. 31, 2020, all foreign investors bought NT$600.09 billion, and sold NT$643.09 billion of stocks, amounting to a net-sell of NT$43.00 billion.

（2）Cumulatively from Jan. 1, 2020 to Jan. 31, 2020, QDIIs bought NT$1.11 billion, and sold NT$0.74 billion of stocks, amounting to a net-buy of NT$0.37 billion.

 

5. Foreign Portfolio Investment in Taipei Exchange (TPEX) Shares

（1）Cumulatively from Jan. 1, 2020 to Jan. 31, 2020, all foreign investors bought NT$69.36 billion, and sold NT$62.82 billion of stocks, amounting to a net-buy of NT$6.54 billion.

（2）Cumulatively from Jan. 1, 2020 to Jan. 31, 2020, QDIIs bought NT$0.22 billion, and sold NT$0.58 billion of stocks, amounting to a net-sell of NT$0.36 billion.
