Deutsche Securities Taipei Branch to Close its Business

The FSC has granted approval for the termination of business operations of Deutsche Securities Asia Ltd Taipei Branch (hereinafter referred to as " DB Securities Taipei Branch”).
The FSC stated that Deutsche Bank AG has announced significant strategic transformation and restructuring plans in July 2019. The plans include focusing on core banking market, and exiting its global equities sales and trading business. The DB Securities Taipei Branch, registered as securities and futures brokers, therefore decides to terminate its business in Taiwan, as part of the Deutsche Bank AG’s restructuring plan. The DB Securities Taipei Branch set its last business day in Taiwan on 17 August 2020.
The DB Securities Taipei Branch mainly provides brokerage services in the securities and futures markets, with 0.18% and 0.12% of the market share respectively. It ranks 13th among 14 foreign securities firms in 2019. The DB Securities Taipei Branch will help transfer exiting customers to other domestic firms. The FSC expects the close of the DB Securities Taipei Branch will not cause significant impact on the Taiwan’s securities and futures markets.
The total trading volumes from the registered foreign brokerages firms in Taiwan listed stock market increased by 46% for the first half of the 2020, compared to the same period in 2019. It shows the foreign securities firms are steadily growing in Taiwan. 
The FSC committed to build a sound financial market and friendly investment environment to attract global investors to invest and manage their wealth in Taiwan. Thus, the FSC has actively relaxed rules to introduce more diversified financial products and investment options. Furthermore, the FSC expands the operation scope of the financial institutions to provide high-quality services, among a variety of other important policies. Through the above activities, the FSC emphasized its ongoing policy to encourage and welcome the international financial institutions to stretch into Taiwan’s capital market.
