The Securities Market Will Shorten the Matching Interval of Intraday Odd-Lot Share Trading from 1 Minute to 5 Seconds on December 2, 2024
2024-12-02
The matching interval of intraday odd-lot share trading will be shortened from 1 minute to 5 seconds on December 2, 2024. This is a further improvement of the intraday odd-lot share trading system launched on October 26, 2020, and investors are reminded to pay attention to this measure.
According to statistics, from October 2020 to the end of October 2024, the average daily trading value of intraday odd-lot shares on the Taiwan Stock Exchange (TWSE) and the Taipei Exchange (TPEx) was NT$2.804 billion (0.86%) and NT$523 million (0.63%), respectively. Compared with the values before the implementation of the intraday odd-lot share trading from January to September 2020, the average daily trading value of intraday odd-lot shares on the TWSE and the TPEx was NT$223 million (0.12%) and NT$54 million (0.11%), respectively, with an increase of about 1,157% and 869%, respectively. The number of accounts engaged in the trading of intraday odd-lot shares on the TWSE and the TPEx increased from 320,000 to 1.31 million and from 350,000 to 2.61 million, with a growth rate of 315% and 641%, respectively. The largest growth rate was observed in the investor group under 30 years old, the proportion of which increased from 21.10% to 28.01% and from 10.31% to 16.78% on the TWSE and the TPEx, respectively. This indicates a significant increase in the proportion of young people investing in the capital market.
The Financial Supervisory Commission (FSC) states that the intraday odd-lot share trading system has been gradually improved and optimized since its implementation, and the shortening of the matching interval this time can improve the efficiency of intraday odd-lot share trading, which will be more conducive to investors’ matching opportunities and facilitate the implementation of financial inclusion. The FSC has supervised the TWSE and the TPEx on their strengthening of advocacy to securities firms and investors concerning this measure. However, it reminds investors to carefully evaluate the trading costs and their own risk-bearing capacities, and understand the companies’ financial and business fundamentals and pay attention to relevant investment risks, and make good use of the intraday odd-lot share trading market.
